Salty Foods

When it comes to salt, you can't trust your taste buds

The Heart Foundation and VicHealth has released results of a new survey of over 800 Victorians that shown that most still don't understand the dangerous levels of salt being consumed.

Worryingly, two-thirds of people claim they believe they eat less or about the right amount of salt, but many were unable to correctly identify high salt foods.

The Heart Foundation and VicHealth have joined forces to launch the "Don't Trust Your Taste Buds" campaign to urge Victorians to trust the label and not their taste buds when it comes to identifying hidden salt in processed foods.

High salt consumption increases the risk of high blood pressure and the risk of cardiovascular disease including heart attack, stroke, kidney and blood vessel disease. One in 20 deaths in Victoria can be attributed to high salt intake – six times the annual road toll.

About 75 per cent of salt in our diets comes from processed foods. It's hiding in a lot of the processed foods we eat and even the most discerning taste buds won't be able to taste it.

MUSIC

Music club Free for all

Secondary Girls only Wednesdays 1st half of lunch
Secondary Boys only Fridays 1st half of lunch
Primary students Thursdays most of lunch

We are now going digital with our drums. Due to the huge amount of students who wish to learn how to play the drums, we have purchased a new type of drum. Although it doesn't look much like a drum, it has a great sound and it is played the same way as a traditional acoustic drum set. One of the best features about this drum is that the students can use headphones to hear them. This allows more practice time for the students without drowning out the other student's instruments with excessive volume from the drums. We hope that even more students will come to try the professional new drums with many new features.

Need help with instruments?

It is fantastic to hear that some students are learning or buying instruments for home. I would like to say to parents that I am happy to talk anytime that mutualy sutable about any questions they may have such as what to look for in an instrument or how to tune a guitar or any other music related help. Choir

It has been so inspiring to see so many students give up their lunchtimes to practice choir. The whole thing grew in a student centred manner. The students came up with many of the ideas from the choice of the song itself right through to the choreography. It is great to see that we have so many talented and dedicated students in our school. Thanks to all for your effort girls and boys,

Mr Webb.
